If you’ve never poached fruit before, get ready to be wowed. The tender, juicy pears soaked in a sweet, aromatic syrup are a perfect balance of flavors and textures. And the best part? It’s quick, nutritious, and seriously versatile. Whether you're serving it as an appetizer, dessert, or even for a fancy dinner - okay, let’s be real, it’s perfect any time of day!
I love this poached pear recipe because it looks elegant, but the prep is surprisingly easy. The key to success? Choose firm pears. Overripe pears tend to fall apart during poaching, and we’re going for that perfect balance of tender but intact.
Ingredients:
-
3 cups water
-
1 cup orange juice
-
1 cup Cinnamon & Honey
-
2-3 star anise
-
6-8 cloves
-
1 vanilla bean
Directions:
- Peel and core the pears, keeping them intact.
- In a medium pot, bring water, orange juice, honey & cinnamon, star anise, cloves, and the vanilla bean to a simmer.
- Gently add the pears to the pot and simmer for about 15 minutes, or until they’re just tender (but still holding their shape).
- Carefully remove the pears and set aside. Continue simmering the poaching liquid until it reduces by half and thickens.
- Wrap each pear in puff pastry and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes, or until golden and flaky.
- Drizzle the reduced poaching liquid over the warm pastries before serving.
