Charlie Rea Killed in Plane Crash
Share
We mourn the loss of Charles Rea in a plane crash near Mwinilunga, NW Province Zambia. Charlie was a skilled pilot and it appears that his Van’s RV plane lost control shortly after takeoff. He was killed on impact.
Charlie was a consulting Civil Engineer with a passion for development. He planned and championed the NWZDT hydro project to bring electricity to one of the remotest regions of Africa. Charlie was born in the Mwinilunga district, was schooled in Zambia, UK, Canada and USA, and worked widely on the continent and overseas. He was a mentor, a teacher, an inventor a planner and most of all, passionate in everything he did.
We knew Charlie in Zimbabwe. He lived large. His passion for Zambia and Africa was his trademark. We are deeply saddened by his passing
Charlie’s close friend and ally, Dan Ball said this, “We have lost a good man, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, husband, friend and champion for northwest province. He lived life fully, with the pedal to the metal. He preferred to dance in the fire and not around it and he has left us as he lived - fully engaged and in flight.”
We encourage donations to North West Zambia Development Trust.
